Yes, once a sample is prepared and inserted into the reader you have an additional slide within your Micron Kit so you can begin to prepare the next sample and continue to run samples simutanously. Further additional slides can also be purchased from Bimeda UK.

No, if you prefer to use an electronic centrifuge this can be purchased at an additional cost from Bimeda UK or alternatively if you already have a centrifuge in your premises, the operating instructions that come as part of the kit give advice on what speed to spin the sample and for how long.

The Micron kit can be used to test both individual samples and pooled samples and how to prepare a pooled sample will be covered in the training.

The Micron kit is benchmarked using the VetQAS proficiency scheme run by the APHA. This is a scheme which laboratories can voluntarily partake in to determine the accuracy of their testing service.

This standard is achieved by submitting three results three times per year that fall within two standard deviations of the mean result. The closer you are to the mean, the better.

Micron Kit was the first non-lab to participate in this scheme and received nine samples across 2022, passing the standard with all of them and improving in each round.

Micron Kit can also be found within the Veterinary Parasitology Journal. Whereby an independent study found Micron Kit to be non-inferior to accredited laboratory methods of conducting a FEC.

A sedimentation test can take up to 30 minutes plus a manual egg count, whereas the Micron fluke tests can be prepared in less than 8 minutes with no manual egg count required. The Micron reader is calibrated to read a fluke flotation test.

Like the FEC samples, Micron fluke samples have been submitted to VetQAS for proficiency testing with good agreement.

Like the standard Micron FEC kit, everything within the fluke test kit is completely reusable and simply needs to be rinsed thoroughly immediately after each use. You only need to repurchase your flotation solutions.
